Allergy Sinus Voice is an ear, nose and throat specialty practice operated under the direct supervision of Shaista Husain, M.D. As an Otolaryngologist, head and neck, facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Husain has developed the technical and clinical skills required in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and disorders of the head and neck.
In her ENT practice, Dr. Husain spends about 50% of her time treating patients with sinus diseases, sleep apnea, and voice disorders. Many of her patients with chronic sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, and otitis media show signs of nasal allergies.
The evaluation of suspected nasal allergies is initiated with a detailed assessment of the patient’s history and thorough physical examination utilizing diagnostic nasal endoscopy. If a diagnosis of nasal allergies is found, proper environmental control strategies are discussed with the patient. Furthermore, active infections or structural abnormalities witnessed on the endoscopy are addressed and indentified as to their contributing roles in the disease process. Treatment options include the use of topical therapies, surgical management of refractory disease, and immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is uniquely tailored to be patient specific after allergy testing has determined the specific allergen(s) resulting in the patient’s symptoms. |

- Cancer
Early detection is critical to preventing fatal outcomes. Cancers of the head and neck such as laryngeal cancer can be particularly aggressive. Signs of cancer of the head and neck include changes in the skin, pain, prolonged hoarseness, and sudden loss of voice. If you suffer from any of these symptoms you should see an ENT or head and neck physician immediately.
- Nose & Mouth
Congestion, allergic rhinitis, a deviated septum, and mouth sores are just a few of the varied health problems that occur in this region of the body.
- Throat
Maladies of the throat can be a mere nuisance or a major ordeal. Tonsillitis, voice disorders, and even hoarseness all interfere with our ability to communicate. Many of these conditions can be improved or corrected with the care of an ENT physician or head and neck surgeon.
- Head & Neck
Many surgical advances are being made in this area. Procedures such as tonsillectomy and facial plastic surgery are becoming less invasive, and new procedures are being developed to treat serious problems such as cleft palate, sleep apnea, and deafness.
- Sinusitis
Sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria. It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants. Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a physician’s diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection and prevent future complications.
- Otolaryngology
Otolaryngology (pronounced oh/toe/lair/in/goll/oh/jee) is the oldest medical specialty in the United States. Otolaryngologists are physicians trained in the medical and surgical management and treatment of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat (ENT), and related structures of the head and neck. They are commonly referred to as ENT physicians.
